    Great hold! Satin sheen. So this stuff's texture seems almost like a partially cured white glue. Goopy and sticky. It's hold is Amazing, but I also noticed it seems to "pull" my hair (And pulls my hair out a little, too) as I am styling, because it's "Holding" onto my hair so darn good! So you gotta be careful as you style with this stuff. You still need to work it like a pliable wax, or putty. It won't ever turn rock-hard like a gel, you can re-shape your hair and it'll hold. It's NOT waterproof (Nor sweatproof), and cannot take winds more than 30MPH. If you want more hold, then use a high-hold hair spray, with a 24-HR hold. 4Not very useful This only works when applied to hair that contains just the right amount of moisture. Too wet, and the product becomes slick and provides no hold. Too dry, and the product becomes sticky to the point of being unworkable. Furthermore, it is very hard to wash out; one has to apply shampoo several times to get it out. The scent of the product is too feminine. 2Two StarsIt didn't hold as good as the one i bought in korea.2I'm in love with this stuff and I'll never go back to anything else Overview:I came across this stuff by accident in the reviews for another hair styling product. It was cheap enough and well reviewed so I bought it on a whim and boy am I glad I did. The hold is fantastic all day and even into the next morning before I shower. The only thing with this is you need a very small amount and it's very easy to apply too much and have your hair feel greasy and weird. The amount will vary with everyone's hair, so you'll have to do some experimentation. My hair is between 2.5-3" at the front and I use this stuff to push that standing up. I only need to dip the pads of my pointer and ring fingers. I massage it into my hair like shampoo then style. Also you'll need to experiment with how wet/dry your hair should be when applying. For me personally, after showering and towel drying my hair I need to wait about an hour before putting this stuff in. That gives me the ideal hold to softness ratio. I use sulfate free shampoo and this washes to very easily. Other products I've used in the past didn't wash out properly with this shampoo. Last thing, other reviews mentioned it has a light scent of apples. To me it smells like hairspray with a tiny hint of apples hiding in the background. It's not a bad smell, it just seems artificial smelling and not nice like I was expecting.Pros:- good all day hold- keeps hair decently soft feeling- subtle smell that isn't overpowering- washes out easily with sulfate free shampooCons:- it's tough to figure out the exact amount of product and hair wetness you need. It's not as forgiving as other productsOther thoughts:- The weird thing is that after I've woken up in the morning, showered, put this in, gone to bed, and woken up the next day the hold is still great but my hair feels like there's absolutely nothing in it. I wish I could replicate this right after putting it in, but I haven't figured out that mac yet- this may be a quirk with my own hair, but after applying it takes about an hour to look it's best. For anyone else who is depressed about Aveda discontinuing their Shaping Wax, THIS PRODUCT IS FOR YOU!! I ve wasted at least $200 in the last few months searching for an alternative, and have thrown everything I ve tried in the trash after a few disastrous uses. THIS STUFF IS A PERFECT REPLACEMENT! Same consistency, same hold. The only difference is that it does not have the wonderful Aveda smell, but it still smells really good...mildly fruity. Try it if you are looking for a really strong hold! I have a short pixie cut and it is perfect for giving me a little spiky edge. And it s way cheaper than Aveda / bonus!! 5So glad I found this! I absolutely love this hair wax! My hair is thick and I used to use gel on it. However, I could never get my hair to look how I wanted. I decided to give this stuff a try and I am very glad I did. I'm going to compare this to regular hair gel because that's what I used to use and hair gel seems very common (I'm basing this off of my experience with hair gel and this Gatsby hair wax. I'm not saying everyone has these problems with hair gel, I'm just trying to help those who do have similar problems).- Hair gel would never style my hair just right. I would put hair gel in my hair and try to spike it, and the spike would never turn out quite how I imagined it. Using this hair wax, I can get a perfect spike easily every time (assuming I use the wax correctly).- Hair gel never looked quite right in my hair. When I used hair gel, it would leave my hair looking hair, flaky, and shiny. This hair wax looks much better in my hair. It gives your hair a soft texture (it feels soft and looks it too), and it doesn't get flaky either. On top of that, it gives your hair a very natural appearance without the gloss.- Hair gel would take a long time to use. It would take me up to 15 minutes to use the gel. I would keep trying to get the perfect style but it would never look right. I took a long time trying to create the style and I would still come away feeling unsatisfied. With this hair wax, I can spike my hair in less than 2 minutes and be very happy with the look.Bottom line is, if you have thick hair, this hair wax will work wonders. It will allow you to easily style your hair and create the look you want, it will look great, and you can do it very quickly. Now before I finish this review, I would like to go over a few more things. First, some people say this stuff doesn't wash out easily. For me, that's not true. I can wash my hair like normal (only once) and my hair is product free and ready to be styled. This hair wax is easy to restyle. Some of you may be worried about the hold like I was. I didn't think it could hold well if you could just re-syle it. I thought that if it could be restyled easily, maybe it could be "restyled" on accident, say if there was some wind or something. Well, it does have a good hold. It's not just going to collapse of anything. However, if you want, you can work you hair into a different style in the middle of the day. Now, if someone tried to mess your hair up as a joke, they would be able to. However, you can always just restyle it back. Finally, I would like to mention a few problems you might have with this wax. The correct way to do apply this wax is to take a small amount, about a finger tip, and spread it over your hands until it is transparent. I found it tempting to not spread it well enough or to use to much product. DON'T DO THIS. It will make your hair look bad and will be hard to style. It makes you hair too stiff and makes it clump together. It will completely ruin the look. Make sure you use a small amount, and spread it evenly over your hands. Make sure the wax is transparent and there isn't any visible wax on your hands. If you apply this Gatsby hair wax properly, it will allow you to easily create an awesome style. Good luck! 5This product makes it quick and easy to style my hair Product does exactly what it claims. Seriously does not compare with any other similar product. I used to use Redken Outplay and this is way stronger. I no longer have to wrestle with my hair to get it up into messy spikes. This product makes it quick and easy to style my hair. Smell is kinda fruity but you only smell it when the product is wet. Once it dries the smell is gone.Has a cream consistency but dries quick and holds spikes all day. Great for thick hair. Use a little at a time. Don't try to style your whole head all at once. The product dries too fast for that. Style one section at a time.Gave 4 stars because it is hard to wash out. I use diluted applecider vinegar in a spray bottle to help break down the product while in the shower. Still worth it though for the results. I have very thick and unruly hair, and for years I've struggled with domestic stuff that were both expensive and useless. By accident I had forgotten my gel on a trip to Japan years ago and had to buy this from a nearby 7-11. To my surprise not only did this go on really easy, the hold and styling capabilities were astounding, and add a bonus that this smells nice and it's a five star product for me. I've struggled to find this back home and often drive far to Asian markets for this, but now that Amazon carries it and at a great price I'll be buying it here.I have short cropped hair, longest is about an inch and half and I use very little to get great hold all day, a bottle like this takes me almost a year to use up, and that's daily use. 5Only Stuff That Hold My Hair I've had pretty stubborn hair all my life and it's always been hard to find something that was able to hold it, but this stuff works great. Not only does it hold my hair, it also doesn't get your hands all sticky when you touch it midday and it very easy to wash out at the end of the day. 5Godsend for very thick hair. This stuff is crazy strong! I have extremely thick, straight hair. My only real options for managing it are either very short or long hair. The one product I could ever get to control it was American Crew's fiber, which is more expensive in comparison to Gatsby. Aside from the cost of AC, it really works best while my hair is longer. I'd have to apply between two or three times what I'd apply with long hair to make it stay in place.After considerable amount of research (essentially Google search for Asian hair products - I'm not Asian, just have thick hair) I found this little gem. Very little is all you need and your hair stays in place all day. I get very sweaty at the gym; while my hair is wet, my hair falls toward my eyes, once it dries, though, I can move it back to its original place and it stays until I wash it out.The only two issues I have are that I need to shampoo twice to get all of the product out of my hair, and there's no shine. To get shine to my hair, I add a small amount of brylcreem.I really wish I'd found this year's ago. The one jar I bought over 2 months ago doesn't even have a dent. 5Couldnt tame husbands asian fro Was hoping it would help my husband's hair as he grew it out from a military shave. He has stubborn, Asian hair and we wanted to keep the sides by his ears down and not so "fro-like" during this transition. Sadly, this made it look "styled" but not enough hold to have it styled and tamed the way we were hoping. And living in the south, the slightest hint of sweat or hummidity would wipe away any hold this product could offer. He used this product from about a centimeter long hair until 2 inches and it didnt really ever help. Fonex Gummy Wax had a stronger hold than this and it was half the price on amazon. 3
